What's In A Name

Arete signifies potential realized and function fulfilled. It is a life well lived, full of excellence and courage.

About Us

Arete Scholars exists to help economically disadvantaged children reach their highest potential through educational opportunity. Through private contributions from corporate and philanthropic partners, Arete awards need-based K-12 scholarships and empowers parents to place their children in schools that best suit their unique gifts and learning needs.

Arete currently operates in Georgia under the state's Tuition Tax Credit Scholarship Program and in Louisiana under the Tuition Donation Rebate Program. Scholarship eligibility is based on the income guidelines for the federal free and reduced lunch program (FRL), and award amounts range from $2,500 to $5,000 per year. Recipients are required to requalify each year.

Kids caught in cycles of poverty often see little chance for change.

We serve a community of children & families who are traditionally low on hope & opportunity. Broken homes, low-performing schools, and limited job possibilities only perpetuate the hopelessness. Arete expands access to high-quality schools and pairs disadvantaged children and their families with the appropriate social, educational, and career services to create new opportunities for success.

Effective Collaboration is essential to our success and sustainability.

For many at-risk children, attending a better school is often just the start – they need life skills that go beyond reading, math, and science. Arete partners with like-minded organizations that share our vision for generational change and breaking cycles of poverty. These partnerships enable us to efficiently deliver programs that reach children both in and out of the classroom and before and after the K-12 years.

The single word that best captures our motivation.

With excellence in all that we do, Arete models success and encourages it in the students and families we serve. While success will look different for each individual, we create a common platform for academic achievement, lifelong love for learning, self-sufficiency, and personal responsibility. Arete aims to see children from all economic backgrounds discover their own unique gifts and use them to their greatest potential – to their own delight and for the benefit of others.

Arete Scholars Goes to Battle for Its Students.

Along with our partners, we help defend the interests of disadvantaged children and level the field for their educational pursuits. Practically, that means empowering parents to choose a learning environment that is safe, effective, and child-centered. The results are children who first dream big, and then act wisely and courageously to make their dreams reality.
