A Lasting Legacy: Michelle’s Impact and the Path Forward at Archbishop Chapelle
For 38 years, the rhythm of one office at Archbishop Chapelle High School in Matairie, LA, has been quietly steady; files carefully balanced, families gently guided, and scholarships thoroughly stewarded so that opportunity could reach students who might otherwise never have had access to it. At the center of that work has been Michelle Lambert, the school’s financial director, whose upcoming retirement at the end of this school year marks the close of an era that has shaped generations of students and families.

For Anne, who has worked alongside Michelle for the past 10 years and will step into her role, the transition is both an honor and a deeply personal continuation of a legacy she has watched unfold up close.
“Michelle is absolutely one of the most caring people we have on campus,” Anne shares. “She has guided all of the families on the Arete scholarships.”
But what sets Michelle apart, Anne emphasizes, is not just that she informs families about opportunity; it’s how she walks with them through it.
“She reaches out to them and walks with them through the application process rather than just, ‘Okay, here’s the link. Good luck.’ She does the extra step. She’s just very caring and helps guide them through the process.”
That extra step, Anne explains, has defined Michelle’s entire approach to her work. It is not transactional. It is relational. And for families navigating complex financial aid systems, often for the first time, it makes all the difference.
“There have been occasions where some of the families didn’t really understand what was being asked,” Anne says. “And Michelle has guided them, kind of held their hand through it, but very carefully, to be respectful to them and make sure that they understood what was being asked without making them feel as though they weren’t smart enough to do the process. Just giving them the dignity of assistance without making a big deal of it.”
It is that balance—compassion paired with discretion—that Anne believes most clearly defines Michelle’s legacy.
“She is very loyal, very smart, very well respected on our campus, and very fair,” Anne says. “And it seems like an odd thing to describe a financial person as fair, but it doesn’t matter who you are. Everybody gets treated with the same amount of respect. She makes everyone feel valued, from employees to families to prospective families. Everyone on campus is treated fairly and respectfully; she truly cares.”
Behind the scenes, Michelle’s work has extended far beyond scholarship guidance. For nearly four decades, she has maintained the systems, structures, and financial stewardship that have allowed the school to grow physically, academically, and in mission.
“What people see on the surface is that everything looks great,” Anne explains. “But it’s because Michelle has done so much work on the back end to make sure everything is balanced and true.”
That stewardship has helped make visible progress possible: new buildings, expanded programs, and a steadily growing student body.
“Our enrollment is increasing,” Anne says. “We are on a steady increase over the past six years, and part of that is because we are wonderful beneficiaries of the Arete program. We are increasing our numbers coming in from public schools, and because the Arete scholarships are available, we are able to provide that Catholic education.”
For Anne, this growth reflects the deeper mission Michelle has supported for nearly four decades.
“It’s giving families the ability to choose our school,” she says. “Our mission is to educate girls academically, socially, and spiritually, and it’s allowing families to choose that for their daughters who might not have otherwise been able to.”
Anne has seen firsthand how Michelle’s systems and relationships have made that mission sustainable.
“I tease her right now,” Anne says with a smile. “It’s like, you have paved the road for me. All I have to do is continue to walk on the path you’ve laid.”
That path includes not only carefully built procedures and financial systems but also deeply rooted relationships between departments and families that have taken years to cultivate.
“Fortunately for me, as I’ve learned under her for the last 10 years, our records are in such good shape,” Anne says. “Everything is so well established. The procedures she has put in place mean that stepping into her role will be much easier for me because I don’t have to build those relationships. They’re already there.”
Still, Anne is clear-eyed about the responsibility ahead and the standard she hopes to meet.
“I hope to be able to continue the traditions she is leaving behind,” she says. “To keep the good communication lines open between the finance office, the academic office, the Head of School, and our families. Because that was what she did best.”
One of Michelle’s most enduring strengths, Anne notes, is her accessibility.
“Our families’ calls were always answered,” she says. “Especially for those families who are in need, sometimes they shy away from reaching out. But in this office, they were always dealt with a compassionate ear and a fair answer. I hope to continue that.”
Beyond her professional excellence, Michelle’s presence has left an emotional imprint on those who worked alongside her.
“She is very well respected,” Anne repeats. “But more than that, she has a caring attitude and respect for every family at this school. Her honesty and compassion for everyone will long outlive her career here.”
When asked what Michelle’s legacy will be, Anne did not hesitate.
“Her reputation,” she says. “Her fairness, her caring attitude, her respect for every family, and her honesty and compassion; those things will long outlive her career here.”
That legacy extends beyond day-to-day operations and into the physical campus itself. Over the course of Michelle’s tenure, the school has expanded and improved significantly—growth that Anne attributes in part to Michelle’s careful stewardship.
“There have been so many improvements over the 38 years,” she says. “Our campus is in incredible condition. We have new buildings, and another one is currently being planned. All of that has been possible because Michelle has been such a good steward of Chapelle’s finances over the years.”
In recognition of that stewardship and impact, Michelle and her husband were honored in 2024 with the school’s Deus Providebit Award, given annually to top benefactors who have made extraordinary contributions to the school community. The award is a reflection not only of financial leadership but of lasting commitment to mission and students.

As Michelle prepares to close this chapter, Anne also reflects on what she would want donors and supporters to know about the impact of their generosity, an impact that Michelle helped bring to life year after year.
“I would like to give a tremendous thank you,” she says. “Because those girls are graduating with bigger dreams than they could have imagined starting high school. It’s because they were given the gift of their Arete scholarship, which allowed their parents to choose the best high school for them.”
Michelle’s work, in many ways, has been about making those dreams possible quietly and consistently in the background, ensuring that opportunity is not a matter of chance, but of structure, care, and intention.
As Anne prepares to step into her new role, she carries both gratitude and resolve.
“I was fortunate to learn under her for 10 years,” she says. “She’s established everything so well. I just want to continue what she started.”
And while the title on her office door will change, Anne hopes the heart of the work will not.
“As long as our families communicate with us,” she says, “their calls will be answered. Their needs will be met. And they will be treated with compassion and fairness.”
That, she knows, is the standard Michelle Lambert set long before she ever began thinking about retirement, and the one Anne now hopes to carry forward.
Because legacies like Michelle’s are not just remembered when someone leaves.
They are continued, quietly, every single day that follows.
