Building Confidence, Inspiring Growth: A Family’s Path to Academic and Personal Success

Sometimes the biggest changes begin quietly. For Kreshawna, it began with paying close attention to her children and noticing small but meaningful shifts in their motivation, confidence, and joy for learning. She saw moments where effort faded, and curiosity felt harder to spark, and she began asking herself what kind of environment could help those qualities grow again. That question eventually led her family toward private education, a supportive school community, and the life-giving impact of an Arete scholarship for Kaleb, Kelsey, and Kenslei.

Before receiving Arete support, Kreshawna paid tuition out of pocket, stretching her finances because she deeply believed in the education her children were receiving. While she never doubted the value of private school, the cost often felt heavy. When Conyers Adventist Academy shared information about Arete and encouraged her to apply, a door opened, bringing both relief and renewed hope. Last year marked the first time the family received scholarship support, and it quickly became a turning point.

Looking back, Kreshawna clearly remembers why the change felt necessary. During their middle school years, she noticed a shift in her older children. Motivation had begun to slip. A passing grade felt acceptable. When a seventy-five appeared on a test, the response was relief rather than concern. She knew those years were critical, and she felt an urgency to place her children in an environment where effort was expected and excellence was encouraged.

That environment is now part of their everyday lives. Private school has reshaped not only how Kaleb and Kenslei perform academically, but how they see themselves as learners. While they were always capable students and often earned honor roll recognition, the biggest change is now in their mindset. Surrounded by peers who strive for excellence and teachers who believe deeply in their potential, they aim higher. As and Bs no longer feel like the finish line. Growth and effort matter.

Each child’s journey continues to unfold in a unique and meaningful way. Kelsey, the youngest, is now in first grade and has been at Conyers Adventist Academy since preschool. She continues to grow in a consistent, nurturing environment where teachers know her well and invest deeply in her learning. Her school feels welcoming and familiar, a place where curiosity is encouraged and faith is naturally woven into each day. With that steady foundation, Kelsey is blossoming both academically and personally.

Kenslei, now in seventh grade, joined Conyers more recently after previously attending public school. The transition felt overwhelming at first. Moving from a large school to a much smaller classroom took adjustment, and Kenslei noticed every difference. Today, she is thriving. With encouragement from Kreshawna and the steady support of her teachers, she has grown more confident and comfortable in her surroundings. She now participates in drama and steps into public speaking, even becoming the only girl in her public speaking group. Once quiet and reserved, Kenslei is finding her voice, supported by a setting that allows her to be seen and heard.

Kaleb’s journey also reflects steady growth. After attending public school through seventh grade, he moved to private school for eighth grade at Conyers Adventist Academy. That smaller setting prepared him well for his next step. Now a ninth grader at Young American Christian School, Kaleb transitions smoothly into high school life. His calm, easygoing personality helps him connect easily with peers and teachers alike. He is well known and well loved at his school, and teachers speak highly of both his character and work ethic. Last year, his growth culminated in an extraordinary achievement. Kaleb graduated eighth grade as valedictorian, a moment that affirms every step taken to place him in the right environment.

Beyond academics, Kreshawna sees how deeply the school environments continue to shape her children. At both Conyers Adventist Academy and Young American Christian School, teachers go beyond instruction. They check in, notice when something feels off, and care for students as individuals. The schools feel like home communities rather than institutions, offering encouragement and support that extends beyond the classroom.

Outside of their studies, each child continues to explore interests that help them grow. Kaleb balances football and filming alongside his academics. Kenslei and Kelsey take part in piano, developing creativity and confidence through music. Kreshawna values that her children are encouraged to grow fully, not just academically, but personally and spiritually as well.

When Kreshawna reflects on the role Arete plays in their story today, gratitude comes easily. The scholarship is more than financial assistance. It is an opportunity, peace of mind, and the ability to give her children a Christ-centered education that prepares them not only for college, but for life. Before Arete, private school felt like a distant possibility tied closely to cost. Now, it is a lived reality that her children experience every day.

Through Arete, Kaleb, Kelsey, and Kenslei are growing academically, discovering confidence, and thriving in environments that challenge them to be their best. For Kreshawna, the impact is clear in renewed motivation, strengthened confidence, and the joy of watching her children step forward into brighter futures.
